How do I record a journal entry?

Open Begu → tap the big terracotta mic button on the Today tab → speak your answer to the prompt → tap the button again to stop. Begu transcribes and gives you feedback automatically.

How do I switch the language I'm practicing?

On the Today tab, tap the language pill at the top. Begu supports Italian, Spanish, French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, and English.

How do I change my CEFR level (A2 / B1 / B2 / C1)?

Open Settings → Languages → pick the level for the language you're learning. Prompts adjust to match.

How do I skip a prompt I don't want to answer?

On the prompt card, tap Skip to roll a different one, or tap "Write your own" (Pro feature) to enter your own prompt.

What's the difference between Casual and Formal analysis?

In Casual mode the AI critiques you against natural spoken language — slang, fillers, contractions, dropped pronouns are all treated as correct native speech. In Formal mode it polishes your answer toward how an educated native would speak in a professional or academic setting. Switch in Settings → Analysis style.

Why does Begu need microphone access?

The whole app is built around recording your voice. Without microphone access, Begu can't function. Grant it in iPhone Settings → Begu → Microphone.

Why does Begu need speech recognition?

To transcribe what you said into text so the AI can critique it. The transcription runs entirely on your iPhone (iOS 26's on-device SpeechAnalyzer); your audio is not sent to Apple's servers.

I denied permission by mistake. How do I re-enable it?

Open iPhone Settings → scroll to Begu → toggle Microphone and Speech Recognition back on.

What does Begu Pro unlock?

• The "Write your own" custom-prompt feature.
• Unlimited history (free tier keeps the last 7 days).

How much does Pro cost?

€4.99 / month or €49.99 / year, with a 7-day free trial when you first subscribe. Pricing is shown in the App Store in your local currency.

How do I subscribe or cancel?

Subscribe: Settings → Begu Pro → choose a plan. Cancel: iPhone Settings → tap your name (Apple ID) → Subscriptions → Begu Pro → Cancel Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep Pro until then.

Do I need an internet connection for Pro?

Pro coaching needs internet (the deeper analysis runs on a cloud model). The first time you use a new language, your iPhone may also download a small on-device speech model — that needs internet once. After that, basic recording, transcription, and the free-tier critique all work fully offline.

My Pro features stopped working.

Try Settings → Begu Pro → Restore Purchases. If that doesn't help, email us with the date you purchased and we'll investigate. (Don't send your Apple ID password or full receipt — just the purchase date is enough.)

Does Begu upload my recordings to a server?

No. Audio never leaves your iPhone — not on free tier, not on Pro. Only Pro users who have explicitly enabled "Cloud-powered critique" have their text transcripts sent to OpenAI for analysis. See the privacy policy at /legal/begu/privacy for the full breakdown.

How do I turn off cloud analysis?

Settings → Pro analysis → toggle Cloud-powered critique off. After that, no transcripts leave your device.

How do I delete my data?

Inside the app, open a journal entry and swipe left → Delete. To delete everything at once, uninstall Begu — iOS removes all of the app's private storage with it.

How do I turn the daily prompt reminder off?

iPhone Settings → Begu → Notifications → toggle off. Or change the time inside the app: Settings → Reminders.

The transcript is empty after I recorded.

Speech recognition needs at least a few words of clear speech. Background noise, very quiet speech, or a non-supported regional accent can produce an empty transcript. Try again in a quieter spot; if it keeps happening, email us with the language and the device model.

The coaching button doesn't appear after recording.

Coaching is available for substantive answers — silent recordings and one- or two-word answers don't have enough material to coach. Try a fuller answer.

Critique sometimes flags slang or natural speech.

In Casual mode Begu tries hard to treat slang and casual speech as correct. If you spot a case where it got it wrong, email us with the prompt and the transcript and we'll tune the model.

The app feels stuck after I tapped something.

Force-quit (swipe up in the app switcher and flick Begu away), then reopen. If the issue is reproducible, email us with what you tapped and we'll fix it.
